New Explorers Group

Avatar

I would like to thank everyone that made it to the first Explorers meet last night..

Everyone seems very upbeat and excited about the new group! All we need to do now is decide what activity we are going to do first!

Shooting; Mountain Biking, "Sky Diving", Go-Karting, Water Sports or Climbing to name but a few! So what's it going to be?

YOU DECIDE!

Regards,
Paul..

Wet Weekend at the Centenary Camp 2012

86 members of our Group went camping this weekend in the first ever camp where Beavers, Cubs and Scouts have all camped under canvas. The weather was atrocious on the first night, resulting in the Cubs sleeping in the Sports Barn, but picked up on the Saturday again. The young people didn't let the rain dampen their spirits at all and everybody had a great time. Let us know your experiences of the camp - what activities did you do? How was the food? How was your first night under canvas? How did this weekend compare to other camps you have had?

The weather was bleak on Friday but didn't dampen our spirits! Saturday was much improved and a great day was had by all, leaders and parents included!!! The activities for the kids were great and there was plenty of them to keep them entertained throughout the day! Although not a particularly big issue on our camp due to bringing a lot of our own the food was a let down purely due to the amount available(the quality was good and tasty). With the weathers as it was I felt the kids needed more sustenance, so being told they couldn't have it was a disappointment! However the water fight the following day more than made up for any shortcoming..... It was awesome!!! Another point I thought could have been better arranged was the seating arrangements at meal times for the kids.... If the service crew had had mess tables to serve from then there would have been room for another 48 kids to sit down which would have made for a simpler life..... All in all a happy camper!!

The camp, all in all, a great success and at the end of the day, providing the children go home with smiling faces, job done well. The only minor points I would raise was that due to the amount of children & adults, the toilet facilities could have been checked more regularly to ensure toilet roll and cleanliness was adequate. The catering staff appeared to be quite sharp and rude towards the adult volunteers at times, and with regards to the set up at camp, the only suggestion would have been to have all groups in sequence for each event to avoid unncessary queuing - all in all, good time had by all and the weather didn't dampen our spirits.

The camp was a great success, bar a few minor problems. For example: There could of been a timetable so that each group would have a set time slot and not have to queue up. The catering staff were very rude at times and were very unwelcoming if you wanted to get something. There was more than enough food there but the catering staff were unwilling to give it to us, e.g. you could have either a small sausage or a bacon ration, and you were not allowed seconds. This is not enough to feed a Beaver Scout aged 6, let alone the leaders!Fortunately we had brought along extras to cook on the camp fire on Saturday, or would have been ravenous. But bar those minor incidents, the children enjoyed the activities available, meaning the leaders also had an enjoyable camp as well.

Thank you to everybody who turned up at last night's AGM. We were absolutely swamped with adults and young people, and we got a little wet at times, but the atmosphere was great and it was a successful evening all round. I hope there was something of interest to everybody, and I will be putting the reports, video and photos on this website shortly for everybody to peruse at their leisure. Remember that you can reply to this post to let us know what you thought of last night.

Thanks to everybody for turning up today for the Parade. We were very smart and made a really good impression with the crowds. Well done for sitting through the show as well - it was a little longer than originally billed! It's our turn next year, so get your thinking caps on and let's get planning!!
