Fund Raising

Fund raising? What's this about? Don't Scout Groups get funding from the Government or something?

No!!! Everything that we do is funded by the young people and our fund raising committee. We run several events each year to raise money for maintaining the Group HQ, training new leaders, paying for insurance, and loads of other boring, but none-the-less essential, expenses.

As well as the termly subscriptions paid by the young people, the Scout Group needs around £3000 each year to keep running. This is raised by events organised by the fund raising committee. We try all sorts of things, such as tombolas, raffles, sponsored bike rides and walks, sports days, film nights, book sales, the 100 Club, and anything else that crops up. We also regularly apply for grants from various organisations as well as claiming Gift Aid from HMRC.

Fancy lending a hand?

We can always do with more people on our fund raising committee - many hands make light work! If you'd like to contribute then let us know. Either talk to your Section Leader or fill out this form to let us know that you're interested.

Gift Aid

The tax office operates a scheme whereby any charity may claim back the tax that a tax-payer has paid on a charitable donation. We use this scheme mainly for the termly subscriptions, but also for sponsorship money. We can claim back £2.50 for every £10 that is given to us. It doesn't cost the donor any more; it comes from the tax office. All we need is a form signing that says that you are a British tax-payer (you can't sign up if you don't pay tax).

As an example, every young person in our Group pays up to £90 in subscriptions. We can claim an additional £22.50 for each young person! This could add up to over £1500 each year if everybody signed up!

If you are not currently signed up to our Gift Aid Scheme, then please consider filling in the form below and returning it to your Section Leader.
